A windmill pumps water to a storage tank as long as the wind blows and water gravity flows to the barn, bunkhouse, and cabin. Plus we have a propane tank that gets filled about twice a year. So we had propane heated hot water, propane fridge, and cooked on a propane stove. Now we have a solar tracker with solar panels and an ELECTRIC refrigerator – even a small freezer.
I’m really glad I discovered this post. I’ve been scouring the web for details on solar energy for awhile.Looking forward to reading more posts about energy.
We are steadily working to be closer to free of fossil fuel use in our homes and on the ranch. We still use propane for heating water- on demand heaters- and cooking. I do use a solar oven for baked potatoes– makes the best sweet potatoes. I would like to use solar hot water. Also, if we could do hydropower, we could convert ranch vehicles to all solar and charge them with hydropower. That is a big project and on hold for now– but someday!
