We no longer own the longhorns or the Forest Service allotment. Below are some of the things we used to do here. Now the new owners run a mixed herd of Brangus, Hereford, and commercial cattle. They have a good cowboy – actually a hard working lady-taking care of things and all looks good for the ranch’s future.
Currently there are no guest ranch activities. Doug and I still enjoy the place, but this trip we didn’t haul any horses- a bad mistake. I had a great time hiking and seeing my favorite hideaways, but horseback is THE way to travel on all of Eagle Creek and the surrounding millions of public acres. Doug has been finishing many projects on our cabin. Most of the repairs and upgrades are done now. Next trip we plan on hauling two horses and riding as many trails as our horses’ stamina and our backsides allow.
Enjoy a look at our past projects and dreams.
Once one of the largest, roughest ranches in the old West, the Double Circle Ranch was famous for outlaws, renegades (both red and white), attacks by Geronimo, and cattle drives of up to 30,000 head of wild cattle. Tucked away in southeastern Arizona, high in the Gila Mountains and well inside the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, the ranch was wild, rugged, and home to some truly colorful characters.
Today the ranch includes 37,000 acres of land and is famous for eco-tourism and sustainable ranching, rather than outlaws and bloodshed. The ranch has become a destination vacation, training, and teambuilding site. We are a down-to-earth, remote, old west, rustic dude ranch with limited basic, but modern facilities.
We maintain a herd of roughly 200 Texas Longhorn steers and will be adding another several hundred head shortly. We also have a string of sane and experienced ranch horses available for guests to ride when they come out to work the cattle with us.
The Double Circle Ranch offers exceptional and unlimited horse riding opportunities…see the ranch as it should be seen: from the back of a horse that knows the area and the terrain!
